Collection Instruction

the sample to be collected should be as fresh a sample as possible (early morning sample is preferred). Obtain the first catch voided specimen in the container provided by the laboratory. If dehydrated, a glass of water an hour or so before collection of the specimen can help. Wash hands and rinse well before you collect the urine sample. Wash the organ well 3 times with soap water and once with clean water in a front to back motion. Hold yourself apart and allow the first few drops of urine to pass into the toilet bowl. Hold the container on the outside and pass the remaining urine into the container. During the collection of a specimen in a female patient, vaginal discharge should be avoided. Urine collected during the menstrual period should be noted or avoided for that time. If the samples are not transported within 1-2 hours of collection, it has to be kept in refrigerator.
